Meet Laura

A Parent. A Community Advocate. Current Board President.

A Parent Who Chose to Serve

Laura Guerrero-Salgado’s connection to Bakersfield City School District began as a parent. Her children have attended BCSD schools, giving her firsthand insight into the opportunities, challenges, and relationships that shape a child’s education.

In February 2020, Laura was appointed to represent Area 4 on the BCSD Board of Education. Later that year, voters elected her to continue serving, and in 2022 she was re-elected by the Area 4 community. Today she serves in Board leadership, including as Board President.

Philosophy & Mission

Throughout her service, Laura has focused on listening to families, supporting educators & staff, expanding opportunities for students, and making responsible decisions about public resources. She believes strong schools are built through partnership between students, families, educators, and the community.

In her own words

I am hopeful that the board continues to move in the right direction, and that it continues to support not only our staff, but our families and our students, because not every child that is in our school district comes from the perfect home.

I feel that there needs to be a parent’s voice on the board. A parent’s voice is very important and very crucial to the decisions of school board members.

I am deeply honored to once again be considered to receive the trust of Area 4 voters and be re-elected to continue serving the students, families, educators, and staff of the Bakersfield City School District.
